Dave Lory -- B I O G R A P H Y

Dave Lory is the Chairman/CEO of Worldwide Entertainment Group. He has an in-depth understanding of the music business that stems from a wealth of experience in several areas of the industry. He is one of the few executives to have worked in every major genre of popular music including rock, pop, country, folk, classical, jazz, hip-hop and R&B. His resume includes being chairman to artist management firms, heading international operations at a major record label, starting up one of the most successful independent record companies in the past decade, producing memorable live events, and coordinating and managing large-scale international tours.

In April of 1999 Dave was recruited to join Danny Goldberg’s independent label venture, Artemis Records. As Sr. Vice-President, Dave was responsible for creating the company’s foundation in the areas of production, A&R, international, publishing and human resources. Within seven months of its creation, Artemis placed four albums—rapper Kurupt, singer/songwriter Warren Zevon, hard rock group Kittie, and Steve Earle-- on the 2000 Billboard charts. This was the first time that a new record company had four albums on the charts in its first year. The label also garnered attention with its Grammy nominations for Rickie Lee Jones, Steve Earle and the Baha Men’s massive hit “Who Let the Dogs Out”; the biggest selling, independently distributed album in the U.S. at that time with three million records sold. In the following year, Jimmie Vaughan – Dave’s personal signing – won a Grammy for his 2001 release “Do You Get the Blues”. Artemis Records was voted Billboard magazine’s Independent Label of the Year for two years running (2000 and 2001).

In 2002, as Chairman/CEO of Worldwide Entertainment Group LLC, a management, consulting and event production company, he managed the careers of artists including Courtney Love, Duncan Sheik, and Robert Earl Keen. He also produced “Songs of the City” for the New York Grammy Committee which launched the return of the Grammys to New York after a four year absence. Lory, along with his partner David Leach, also consulted a wide range of clients for short term initiatives such as Cheap Trick for international distribution. Other consultancy clients included Lava, S-Curve, Motown, DreamWorks, Big 3 Entertainment, and Rob Kos’s label venture, Rendezvous Records.

Prior to coming to Artemis and his conception of Worldwide Entertainment Group, Lory was vice president of international marketing and artist development at Mercury Records. Throughout his time at Mercury, he helped break and revive the careers of Cake, The Mighty Mighty Bosstones, Richie Sambora, Elvis Costello and Lucinda Williams on an international level. Additionally, Lory turned both Shania Twain and Hanson into platinum selling, international superstars for the label, elevating the company from having just one platinum selling artist internationally (Bon Jovi) to having three. In addition to these achievements, he oversaw marketing, promotion, live tours, artist development, and album sales of all U.S. signed artists outside the domestic market. He also oversaw artist development, promotional trips and tour marketing for all domestic and international acts signed to Mercury.

Dave’s early experience in music also includes the set up of DE-EL Entertainment, Inc., a tour coordination company based in New York City. The company was built into a management, tour coordination and consulting firm with an international scope, where he proved an effective manager and consultant to corporations on a global scale. Dave served as president of the company from 1986-1991 and as chairman from 1991-1997. Amongst his accomplishments during this time, he was successful in helping revive the Allman Brothers Band after a 10-year absence and his managerial services were instrumental in breaking the careers of Jeff Buckley and Sophie Zelmani internationally.

Dave Lory is also a socially active music business executive. He was a founding member of the Music Managers’ Forum; an organization that supports key issues for artists and managers within the music industry and with Congress. This organization also provides educational forums for up and coming managers. In addition, his teaching duties in the music business programs at William Patterson University and New York University, (where he attended college with a major in both Music Performance and Music Business) as well as his involvement in “Grammy in the Schools” program for NARAS, has proven him to be a great motivator and educator.

Lory is now the Owner and Chairman/CEO of Worldwide Entertainment Group, Inc., a venture he set up to manage projects that coincided with his work at Artemis Records, and continues develop artists to this day. To date, he has co-produced “The Songwriters Hall of Fame Dinner” (2000 and 2001) and was the international consultant for Kid Rock on Lava Records. Because of his past achievements, Dave was elected to the New York Chapter of N.A.R.A.S. (National Association of Recording Arts and Sciences) Board of Governors (2000 – 2002) and also sat on the committee for the New York Heroes Dinner (2000 – 2002). This dinner is held annually and rewards New York artists and music industry personnel for their work within the community, while at the same time raising money for music programs for schools in New York City and other charities in the metropolitan area.

Since September 2008 Lory has been operating WEG out of the former offices of the legendary promoter John Sher, in Montclair, New Jersey. Prior to the move Lory’s headquarters were based in the New York offices of global advertising giant J. Walter Thompson. WEG’s select client roster includes multi-platinum Australian pop star Shannon Noll (Sony BMG, Australia), stunning vocalist Shawna Stone, and an innovative edgy music-based animated TV property, Punktuition, which will be showing at Cannes this year.

Lory and his team at WEG have also provided guidance and resources to record labels and other managers successfully launch and develop their Artists’ careers. Most recently, Lory has been spearheading the campaign break Australian hard rock band Juke Kartel in America.

Throughout his experience as a tour manager, artist manager, international consultant and record company executive, Dave Lory has earned a reputation of integrity, honesty, artist friendliness, innovation in marketing, breaking new artists on a international level, and being both a motivator and mentor. It is because of these attributes that he has an in-depth understanding of the music industry and how it works. In turn, this reputation has solidified his profile as a successful and respected music industry executive.
